About Scarboro Optical

Scarboro Optical has been serving customers in the Scarborough area since the late 50’s. Our store was originally opened in 1959 in the back of a drug store on the North side of Eglinton. As the area developed and the plaza was built Scarboro Optical moved into a brand new store. The original owner was Mr. Austin Uphold. His daughter Carole dedicated 40 years to Scarboro Optical. Initially she had worked with her father and after his retirement Carole continued to work with the second owner Mr. Forbes. He is still very well remembered by our older clientele. The practice grew very quickly as it was one of the first optical stores to open in Scarborough. In the mid 80’s we moved to the South side of Eglinton, where we were until end of 2019. In 1995 Carole took over the business and along with her husband Winston continued to improve and expand it with great success. I started to work with Carole and Winston in 1997 when I graduated from Seneca College and received my optician’s license. It was only natural that when the Barfitts decided to retire in 2006 I became new owner. Our motto has always been “Service, Quality, and Style” and it remains true today. By investing in new equipment I was able to add “value” to the package. I take great pride in helping people with their visual needs and solving vision related problems. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our customers trying on their brand new specs and exclaiming: “ WOW!!! I can see the smallest print on this chart! ” This is the best reward for my work.
